In contemporary society choice is assumed to be the cause of all occurrences in life. Narrowed down is one's individual choice assumed to be the cause of all individual life occurrences. As such individual poverty tends to be treated, especially by rich individuals, as being caused by vicious individual choices. There is a truth in the seeing of poverty as vicious and there is also truth in seeing poverty as caused by vicious choices. However the viciousness of poverty is mainly localized in the choices of the rich who refuse to share their wealth, and not so much in the poor who have hardly any other choice than to undergo their poverty.
