De zeven stralen in zijn algemeenheid

In de tijdloze wijsheid van vooral de Tibetaanse Meester Djwhal Khul via Alice Bailey speelt het concept van de zeven stralen een belangrijke rol. Vijf boeken van de 'vierentwintig boeken van esoterische filosofie' betreffen delen met de subtitel Een verhandeling over de zeven stralen, maar ook in de andere boeken worden de zeven stralen veel gethematiseerd. Als concepten worden ze in principe gebruikt om fenomenen van alle mogelijke soorten te categoriseren, en daardoor te begrijpen.

Te categoriseren nu betekent te generaliseren, en generalisaties zijn abstractheden. En de zeven stralen kunnen als zodanig begrepen worden. Ze zijn in principe abstractheden, of archetypen, die concreetheden kenmerken en karakteriseren. Alle fenomenen binnen ons zonnestelsel, en daaraan voorbij, van atomen tot mensen tot planeten en van persoonlijkheden tot zielen tot monaden, worden gekenmerkt door de zeven stralen.1 Wanneer de zeven stralen die actief zijn binnen ons zonnestelsel worden genoemd moet in gedachte worden gehouden dat deze enkel zeven sub-stralen zijn van een van de zeven grotere stralen die ons zonnestelsel kenmerkt.2 Hier volgen we Bailey in het 'stralen' noemen van de sub-stralen van ons zonnestelsel.

Deze (sub-)stralen nu van ons zonnestelsel emaneren van de zeven sterren, of 'rishis', zoals ze genoemd worden, van de Grote Beer en worden in ons zonnestelsel gebracht via de bemiddeling van de twaalf constellaties en de zeven planetaire logoi3 van de zeven heilige planeten.4 Aldus worden deze zeven planetaire logoi soms ook 'heren van de stralen' genoemd, en ze worden ook gekend als 'de zeven geesten voor de troon van God'.5

Meer specifiek worden deze zeven stralen genoemd onder toegewezen nummers en beschrijvende namen. Straal 1 is de straal van macht, wil of doel, straal 2 van liefde-wijsheid, straal 3 van actieve creatieve intelligentie, straal 4 van harmonie door conflict, straal 5 van concrete wetenschap of kennis, straal 6 van idealisme of devotie en straal 7 van orde of ceremoniële magie.6

Van deze zeven stralen betreffen de eerste drie zogenoemde 'aspectstralen' en de laatste vier 'attribuutstralen'.7 Deze drie aspectstralen kunnen ook 'hoofdstralen' en de vier attribuutstralen 'onderstralen' genoemd worden, want die laatstgenoemden vinden uiteindelijk hun synthese in de derde straal.8, 9, 10

Hiermee is het raamwerk voor interpretatie van alle mogelijke fenomenen eigenlijk alreeds opgericht. Zulk een interpretatie is echter niet altijd even simpel. Soms heersen meer stralen over een fenomeen en soms zijn de heersende stralen afhankelijk van cycli.

Het is hier niet mogelijk om in detail in te gaan op alle complexiteiten van straalrelaties die worden behandeld in Bailey's oeuvre. Echter ondanks specifieke complexiteiten is het vaak mogelijk om wat algemene relaties te geven. En dit zien we gedaan in onderstaande tabellering.

De zeven stralen in de mens

In de vorige paragraaf werd wat algemene informatie over de zeven stralen gegeven. In deze paragraaf zal, om de aanwezigheid van de zeven stralen wat 'tastbaarder' te maken, specifiekere informatie gegeven worden over hoe ze werken of aanwezig zijn in de individuele mens.

De mens bestaat in principe uit een monade, een ziel en een persoonlijkheid, waarbij die persoonlijkheid bestaat uit een mentaal lichaam, een emotielichaam en een fysiek lichaam (waarbij die laatste op zijn beurt bestaat uit een fijn- en een grofstoffelijk lichaam).21 Alle voorgenoemde elementen die de mens uitmaken worden gekenmerkt door specifieke stralen (en sub-stralen).22, 23 Daarnaast maakt de mens ook deel uit van het vijfde wortelras, dat beheerst wordt door de derde straal, het mensenrijk, dat beheerst wordt door de vierde straal, de planeet Aarde, die beheerst wordt door de derde straal, en het zonnestelsel, dat beheerst wordt door de tweede straal (de kosmische straal waarvan onze zeven stralen sub-stralen zijn),24, 25 en deze kenmerken de mens ook. In deze paragraaf zullen we echter focussen op de individuele stralen van de mens.

De individuele mens wordt gekenmerkt door de stralen van zijn monade, ziel, persoonlijkheid, mentaal lichaam, emotielichaam en fysiek lichaam. De stralen van zijn monade en ziel blijven hetzelfde in zijn verschillende incarnaties, echter de andere stralen kunnen per leven variëren.26 Welke stralen dominant zijn in een incarnatie zal afhangen van het punt in evolutie of de polarisatie van de mens en van het belangrijkste lichaam waar doorheen de ziel kiest te werken gedurende die desbetreffende incarnatie.27 Bij gemiddelde mensen zullen de persoonlijkheidsstraal en de straal van een of meer lichamen dominant zijn, echter bij hen die zich ontwikkeld hebben tot in het stadium van de aspirant of discipel zal de zielsstraal in toenemende mate dominant worden.28, 29 Bij ingewijden komt de monadische straal in het spel.30 Deze monadische straal is altijd een aspectstraal (want de derde straal absorbeert de vier attribuutstralen, zoals werd geïndiceerd in de vorige paragraaf).31

Dus alle van bovengenoemde stralen kunnen in het spel zijn in een mens. En met de ene straal op de andere inwerkend, hem beïnvloedend en kenmerkend, zijn er lijnen van mindere en grotere weerstand. De oneven (extraverte) stralen (1, 3, 5 en 7) komen gemakkelijker op één lijn met elkaar dan met de even (introverte) stralen (2, 4 en 6) en vice versa.32 Samengevat: de mens is een samenstelling van elementen en factoren.33 Echter om deze elementen en hun wisselwerking te herkennen moet men hun basale kenmerken kennen. En de ene of de andere zal er waarschijnlijk wel bovenuit steken. In de tabel hieronder zal een overzicht gegeven worden van de kwaliteiten van de stralen zoals ze zich kunnen uitdrukken doorheen de (psychologische) opmaak van de mens.

In de eerste paragraaf werden enkele algemeenheden betreffende de zeven stralen naar voren gebracht en in de tweede paragraaf werden ze aangewezen in hun activiteit in de mens. Dit kan nuttig zijn in het opbouwen van een algemeen begrip en ook als mogelijke referentie voor toekomstige publicaties.
